Your move-in day is coming up and you want to know what to expect. First, keep in mind that Boston is always bustling, especially when college students come into the city and are trying to grasp everything. Second, do not expect the day to be seamless and perfect. It’s not. Moving day comes with endless frustrations. For one, it will probably be hot and the last thing that anyone wants to do is make several trips from their dorm room all the way back to the loaded car. There are many great college moving day packing tips that are out on the internet. It is worth it to look them over before deciding on what and how to pack.
It is always recommended to arrive early and beat the rush. Fewer people actually arrive first thing in the morning and it allows for more time to familiarize yourself with your dorm room and campus. This also allows you to make those trips to the local Target to buy any forgotten items and to the grocery store for food, snacks, and drinks.
If you will be living with someone then you should also communicate with them about what will be shared and what ‘universal’ items each person is bringing. If you and your roommate agree to share a microwave then there is no point in bringing two. Remember dorm rooms have limited space so there is no need to bring two medium-sized rugs when they won’t both fit.
When you first arrive you will have to go through some sort of check-in or registration so it is wise to have any move-in, housing, or identification documents easily accessible to you. Also, your mom can wait in the car for that part, she isn’t the one moving in, you are.
