What You Can Skip on Buying For Your Dorm Room

After watching countless YouTube videos while I was preparing to move in my freshman year, I was so excited to buy everything for my dorm that I bought EVERYTHING… I later discovered that I did not need as much as I thought I did, I overpacked, and some items were never put to use. This is what I suggest you skip on buying for your dorm room.
1. Bed risers
My school has adjustable beds that you can either raise if you have a set of tools or you can get a maintenance member to adjust it for you. These are unnecessary for your dorm as the adjustable beds will be able to go high enough to fit tons of storage underneath!
2. Shoe rack
I have a couple of thoughts on this. Depending on the size of your room this can be hard to fit. If you have a lot of shoes and they won’t all fit on the shoe rack, it's not worth it. They can take up too much space. I use and under the bed rolling storage bin for my shoes that I can stack other items on top of and just roll out to open when looking for a certain pair of shoes.
3. Steamer
I knew not to bring an iron or an ironing board because I would have no room to store it and I would probably never use it. However, steamers were always suggested to be but I have to be honest. In the last three years, I think I have used it maybe once. To me this is just not worth it unless you already regularly take the time to iron and steam your clothes, you most likely aren’t going to do it when you get to school.
4. Printer
Most likely your school will have printers all across campus. Whether you get free printing or money on your student account that you can use to print, you probably won’t be printing enough to run out of the money you are given. It is so easy to walk to a spot on campus and use a printer and much less costly than purchasing your own printer.
